Dental Insurance In Texas - Little Known Secrets That Will Save You Money

Are you looking for affordable dental insurance in Texas? Texas has multiple affordable dental plans available for individual, family, group and more, especially in the more populated areas of the state, such as Houston, Dallas - Fort Worth, San Antonio and more. The thing that you really need to consider before buying any dental plan though is if dental insurance is your best option or if buying a dental discount plan would make more sense. Let's take a look at both.

Dental discount plans are not an insurance policy, but simply a network of dentists that offer substantial savings for joining the plan. The dentists get big discounts on items and equipment that the use every day in their practice as one incentive for being members. Also, plan members must pay their dentist the full discounted rate at the time of the appointment. Let me give you an example. Let's say that you need to have a root canal performed on a Molar tooth and the usual cost of having this done is $829.00, but with the discount card your cost would only be $488.00, for a savings of $371.00. You would be required to pay the $488.00 at the time of your visit in full. It's a "win-win" for both parties because the patient saves nearly 45% off the cost of their procedure and the dentist gets his money right away without having to fill out any claim forms, wait 45 days or longer for the insurance company to pay them or make payment arrangements, that don't always work out in their favor.

Decent dental insurance can be expensive, no matter where you live. I recently read that the cost of dental insurance has gone up over five hundred percent in the past decade. Unfortunately, the quality of care has declined at the same time. Dental insurance won't cover any pre-existing problems that you may have and is focused mostly on preventive care. You'll have an extended waiting period before any of your pre-existing conditions will be covered and even then you'll still have to share the cost in most cases.

If you happen to live in Texas or any other state and are looking for affordable insurance, I highly recommend that you take a serious look at dental discount plans before you spend your hard earned money.
